What is a lamp?: A signal that you’re up for company. You light it for an hour, three hours, or the rest of the day, and the people you chose can see that you’re around and until when. It goes out on its own when the time is up, so you can’t forget to turn it off and leave a signal standing that isn’t true any more. You can put it out early whenever you like.
Can I choose who sees my lamp?: Yes. Tap the line above the durations. Choose Everyone, or pick people. Everyone includes people you connect with later. A chosen group does not.
Can I save a group?: Yes. Tick the people, then Save as a group. Groups are saved on your phone, so they are gone if you delete the app or change phones, and nobody else sees them or knows which group a lamp was for.
Will people who can’t see it know?: No. To them it looks the same as your lamp being out.
How do invites work?: Tap Invite someone on the People screen. The app makes a ten-character code and hands it to your share sheet, so you can send it however you normally talk to that person. They open the app, enter the code, and the two of you are connected.; A code works exactly once and expires after seven days. If you connect with someone and later remove them, reconnecting needs a fresh code. The old one will not work again.
Do I tap the link or type the code?: Either. If the app is installed, tapping the invite link opens it. The code also travels as plain text next to the link, and typing those ten characters into the app always works too.
How do I remove someone?: Tap their row on the People screen and choose Remove this person. That deletes the connection along with your lamp, your waves and your settings for it. They don’t get a notification. You disappear from their People list.; It cannot be undone, and connecting again needs a new invite.
What does connecting a contact do?: It lets Message, Call and FaceTime open straight to the right person. You pick one phone number or email address. It is saved on your phone only and is never uploaded. The app cannot read your contacts. Apple’s picker hands back only the detail you tap.
How do I delete my account and everything in it?: Open the Lamp tab, tap Account at the bottom, then tap Delete account. That deletes your account and your data. It cannot be undone. If you have not connected with anyone yet, Account is at the bottom of the first screen.; If it says deletion didn’t finish, tap it again to remove the rest.; You can also email privacy@metatractormedia.com and we will do it for you. Include your Account ID, which is on the same Account screen with a Copy button.
Where do I find my Account ID?: Lamp tab, then Account at the bottom. It is a random string. The app never asks for your name or your email address, so this is the only thing that identifies your account to us.
Does anyone know when I’ve looked?: No. The app has no read receipts, no “last seen”, and no record of who opened it or who looked at whom. Nobody is told that you checked and didn’t reach out.
